In conflicts, many varieties and types of weapons are deployed and most have a fail rate of 10%. Leaving lots of unexploded items lying around and can be a major concern.

Areas where conflicts have taken place can contain unexploded ordnance (UXO) of varying types and sizes, i.e. Bombs, rockets, projectiles (artillery rounds - small arms), mortars, grenades and miscellaneous items of all shapes, sizes and explosive content, which in their own rights are more destructive than landmines. They are usually also in a very sensitive state. Couple this with working in a minefield and you have a very serious problem.

Not all UXO and associated items are easy to work with as we have to take into account the volume of UXO, the whereabouts of UXO, the safety of locals and the protection of property. As you can see in the photos, these UXO were hoarded for future use and then partially destroyed in a hasty departure. The houses and buildings were needed by the locals for habitation.
