Air-dropped bombs range in size from 100 lbs to 2000lbs.

Fuzes can be found in the nose, in the tail (base) or transverse (in the middle).

Fuzing mechanisms can be electrical or mechanical.

Firing mechanisms can be:

  • Impact
  • Impact Inertia
  • Electrical
  • Proximity
  • Anti-Disturbance

Bombs can have 1-3 lugs depending on the type of aircraft flying them.

Fins are used for stabilizing the bomb and slowing it down to assist in the arming sequence. Fins can be box, conical or “snake-eyes”.

All bombs found will be considered armed and blown in place, unless it is ascertained by EOD personnel that the bomb is safe to move.

It is very important not to disturbed bombs because of the possibility of anti-disturbance.
